Today begins with keeping warm. I think that it is pretty much the way to live the next few as well. If you have fun things to do like maybe performing in the Skating Carnival or watching it then ok. Otherwise for me I will strive to keep warm if possible. That can mean staying in the house or if the need to see some sunshine arises then being in a nice warm vehicle works too! lol! I am not conditioned to be out and about in it. If I was then the sunshine might get me out there!
I did see a few fishermen out there in there warm ice tents the other day …I wonder if they will be out again today? I went ice fishing once! When used to waitress at the Wells Gray Inn and was chatting with some local teens around this time of year. We were discussing the upcoming fishing derby on Dutch Lake. None of us had ever done anything like that. Now I have fished and a couple of them had also…I mean we do live in B.C. haha, just none of us had done it in the winter. We were not really sure how warm it could be even with a tent. I do hear it is decent…..
Anyway, a day or two later I waited on the same group… now some people have trouble connecting with teens because they don’t feel they have enough in common or something with them. I personally chat with everyone the same…makes no difference to me the age. I find communication works both ways. The group visited, having coffee for an hour or so, and just before they left one of the girls in the group sort of bashfully handed me an envelope. It was a tip they said. They waited until I opened and were all smiles when I saw that it was a ticket to enter the fishing derby!
If you are wondering if I went? The answer is absolutely!! There were no proper winter type of fishing boots in my house that fit me of course, so I wore rubber boots with warm slippers inside, haha. It did work! A tank, long-sleeved shirt, sweater, long underwear, warm pants, two pair of socks as well as a toque and gloves!! Also I talked to a few people first and borrowed a proper pole and stool to use. There was hot chocolate available down there and a number of entrants had a few kids around. It was a fun atmosphere. Some people went snowshoeing around the lake and a few had a cleared spot and skated. I remember a really fun time! I had not any luck at all with fish!
Not having any fish was ok in my book! I will admit here that I don’t clean the fish usually. Ugh!! Luckily there was no need! However, I had a blast! When I saw that group again I again thanked them and told all the details and made it fun with the silly stuff that happened. Like the slippers etc…Don’t anyone of you think that younger people are not still raised right like they used to be in other generations! They sure as h.e. doubletoothpicks are!!!
Now for today I may not get out to fish, ski, or skate, but if you do then please do like I did, dress for the weather to keep warm! Also, have a blast!
