Funny isn’t it that it still makes us smile that we made it and this is the beginning of the weekend. I know during different jobs that I worked those days I still was happy that it was a Friday yahoo! For some reason it still feels like the beginning of a fun time. Our brains must be trained from childhood still….we still feel it is free time. Lol. There are many different reasons mentioned for the name, depending where you look it up. Planets are supposedly the reason behind some names and gods others…..Some say it is after Venus or Aphrodite…some say it is after Freya or Frige…a goddess from Norse times….I guess it means that it is pretty much named after a woman? I guess I am ok with that. I mean after all Thursday is supposed to be from Thor so…it is fair. Anyway, we are all usually pretty happy it comes around either way. Whatever works I guess.
The seven day week on the calendar came about between the first and third century, a.d. in our time. So one scholar says…. We can thank the Romans for this, they were some of the most widespread people and therefore it became the normal way of looking at the passing of time. It took awhile for it to be world-wide since people were spread out so far and the germanic groups and a few others had ideas about the names themselves…Each used their own for quite awhile but generally everyone came to this way of thinking finally…It is quite the rabbit hole to research it all…many different cultures each have reasoning and words that differ…..The ideas behind numbering the days and the meanings of each of those also….whew….
I guess speaking of that…time is passing regardless of what we want, and we may as well enjoy it while we are here on this beautiful planet! Right? I think I will let you all look it up if you choose to…I am heading out to enjoy my day and hope you spend having fun!
