I found this online…good to know and be aware…conserve and be safe!ย
SNOWPACK UPDATE: BC just released the latest data on snow pack levels and it does not bode well. On average, our provinceโs snowpacks are at just 63% of normal.
This is likely as good as it will get for our snowpacks this spring. Seasonal temperatures are rising and snowmelt will soon begin.
Low snowpacks + persistent drought from last year + El Niรฑo that is causing higher-than-normal seasonal temperatures make severe, province-wide drought this summer very likely, with an increased risk of wildfire. These events potentially impact our day-to-day lives, our local economy and ecosystems. The bright spot is the risk of spring flooding for flood-prone communities is reduced this year.
Impending drought is a huge concern, but we do still have time to prepare. The provincial government has already taken some steps in the right directionโbut it must be more proactive and not reactive, like last year.
Remind our provincial decision-makers that clean, plentiful fresh water and healthy watersheds are integral to all aspects of our lives.
