Her name was Straw B Berry but everyone called her Miss Ess. Literally everyone since noone knew her real name but her totally loyal secretary that had been with her from her childhood. He wasn’t so much just a secretary as a general everything to her. He helped her in times of stress to keep her calm as well as running interference in all of her public dealings.
As for muscle she didn’t need any. She could handle herself. But, a lady always has backup..well a smart one anyway. Her secretary Humphry always had her back. He was around six feet four and had muscles upon muscles. Humphry had decided he may need them years ago when he had met Miss Ess and she had been in the middle of a fist fight on the schoolgrounds with two boys who called her a name. She hadn’t needed his help at the time, but he just knew that if she kept up her tough attitude that someday it may come in handy having someone trained and in shape to follow her into any possible future battles.
Now Miss Ess was tiny but lethal all the same. She had the brains of a genius and the common sense and street smarts to go with it. In many cases that had proved invaluable to her and a deadly combo to her enemies. She solved so many crimes and helped put so many people in the prison system that she was a legend with the local police as well as all the larger organizations that are labeled with just letters….similar to possibly…FBI…etc.
The day started out just like any other. It was a beautiful hot and sunny morning. It was predicted to hit one fifteen in the shade. Not a record for July by any means in the hot New Mexico climate. Miss Ess had nothing pressing on her agenda for the Friday. She was kinda hoping it might just stay that way. She had a few loose ends to tie up with her last two cases and then could kick back and relax. Then in walked the end to her long lazy weekend.
He was tall and lean and had a look on his face that got her attention. His name was David Sealift. He was the youngest in a long line of shipping heirs. The first David Sealift started making his money waaaay back in the early eighteen hundred’s. The family were some of the first to ever privately own a large sailing ship and hauled cargo for kings and made their fortune doing it. They had built upon it year after year with smart investing and using the greed of others to help themselves move onward and upward. They could care less what or for who they hauled cargo and had many ships now to be able to handle pretty much anything. Although the business was technically semi-legal, they were used to move many different illegal products all over the world. There was not a government they did not have a few high-ranking members of on their list of ahem …acquaintances.
Miss Ess had only a few things in this world that she could not tolerate and people who used and abused the system were at the top of her list. When there were drugs, weapons and what have you involved in illegal trade and those helping the transport of those ignored conveniently what was being sent on their own vessels then that made them worse than the dealers. David was probably as bad as the rest. His family had been helping the cartels for a hundred years or more now. David was also a huge member of some organizations like Greenpeace, and Peta and a few other humanitarian causes and that seemed like the worst kind of hypocrite to Miss Ess. He got tax rebates and breaks from nearly every government in the world. The only thing he didn’t have was church status however he did have friends and ranking officials near the pope, so the possibility was not unheard of………
More from the Ess Contingent next week…..Deciding if this will be in the same spot or in a separate page…please check next week to see where I have put it…..Hope you enjoy it!
