HAVE YOU SEEN A FOX LATELY?
Did you know we have four different species of fox in Canada? Yep, who knew?
The grey fox, the arctic fox… of course…lol, the prairie-dwelling swift fox and the red fox. Funny enough I have seen a black fox. I first thought they were totally rare and then I checked into it and as they are small kits, they are known to often be black and then as they grow their colour changes. Kinda like how humans can be blonde and later have their hair turn to brown and then gray. Interesting hey?
I also checked and when looking things up found a company called the Black Fox Farm and Distillery…they sell some spirits…hmm may have to check that out further…..lol
Hmm there are also people who are compared to them…such as wily like a fox…clever like a fox..umm a silver fox…sneaky like a fox…hmm what else? I know cunning like a fox and swift like a fox…lol Now back to the subject. You should never approach a fox. They are after all wild animals. They do absolutely not need to be petted since they are really not petsbut wild creatures! They can hurt you and your small pets! They are meat eaters! They have been seen preying on chickens, rabbits, and other small animals. They have been known at times to have rabies also and that can have devastating effects! Sooo..be sure to just capture only pics of them in the wild and keep an eye out if you are out hiking with your family pets, Cheers y’all and see ya on the trails!
Animal Lookout:
This issue we will check out some Bear Facts!
The Wells Gray Park nearby has a fair amount of both Black Bears and Grizzly Bears. These are not pets nor are they Zoo animals. By no means do you feed them or leave food out for them. Do not approach them as they are wild and very unpredictable. Not even young ones…as nearby is their mama and she will do whatever it takes if she feels threatened! Years ago this writer was on the way up the park with some kids for my daughter’s birthday party. We noticed a bear off to the side of the road as there was a vehicle stopped.
With my mouth agape, I saw the beginnings of an approach by a tourist with either a treat or their hand extended to see the bear! Another family member had a camera filming… Luckily I for once, was quick acting and I started honking while myself and my kids and their friends opened their windows and yelled to frighten the bear away! Wow! A close one, we were so happy to be there to stop a dangerous situation! After the bear scampered away I yelled at the tourists to not do that ever again as they will kill you! No Idea if they understood me but at least we stopped that incident! Whew!! So if you are reading this and think our Beautiful Wells Gray Park is anything like a petting zoo then you are now aware that it is surely not!!! Never approach!!! Stay in your vehicle if you are in it already and only use your zoom to enjoy the wildlife in the area! We do not want to see any destroyed..especially as it is their home…feeding them or leaving food will only harm them in the long run. A picture is worth a thousand words as the saying goes..enjoy that way!
This week’s Bear Facts on: Deer
Wells Gray Park has Deer in all shapes and sizes!
They are not Pets. They are not Bambi!
They are not Zoo Animals.
Do not try to feed or Pet them, Not even baby fawns. Their Mamas are nearby and will protect them if she feels threatened.
Leaving food will harm them and you as they will get used to it, you are not helping them… making them angry when it is not there, possibly leading to aggressive behavior and they will have to be destroyed or moved.
Stay in your vehicle if you see one and take pics only Please!! Just think how great a pic can look on your wall at home!
